Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Revealed

It is sleek, it is curvaceous and it is fast. Yes, I am talking about the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. The Alfa Romeo 4C was introduced last year at the Geneva Motor show, which followed the debut of the 4C coupe. This year ,they have released the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider.

The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider is a compact, 2- seater roadster. It goes to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Alfa Romeo has put a lot of work into the spider and has improved the look of the car. The Alfa Romeo 4C Spider retains the same  1.75-liter, turbocharged, inline-four cylinder engine making 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is the standard Alfa Romeo 6 speed automatic gearbox with a twin dry clutch. Interesting news is that Alfa Romeo is making its comeback to the American market with the 4C Spider.

Exterior looks : Much of the 4C Coupe remains in the Spider. The iconic Alfa center V-grille and low grilles are present in the Spider. The rear spoiler sports the brake light and has Ferrari-esque tail lights.New features available for the 4C spider are conventional headlights, tire options, and a titanium exhaust system with carbon tips. All of these add to the external look of the spider. The windshield has a carbon fiber guard and so is the B-pillar. These house the new decklid and the removable roof of the Alfa Romeo 4C spider. The B-pillar also houses the tiny rear window.

Interior looks : The interior does not have much difference when compared to the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe. The interior is made of carbon fibre and much of it is exposed. The new features exclusive to the Alfa Romeo 4C spider are the upholstered leather seats and an Alpine radio system which is packed with a lot of goodies. The dashboard has a steering which is flat bottomed, with a driver oriented center stack and a beautiful TFT screen. The company offers 5 interior color combinations like black seats with red accent stitching.

Engine and Transmission : As mentioned earlier, the Alfa Romeo 4C spider borrows its heart from the 4C coupe. It has a 1.75 liter, turbocharged, inline-four making 240 horsepower and 258 feet of torque. An added feature to the engine is a “scavenging control system” which eliminates turbo lag. The Aluminium cylinder block helps reduce the weight of the car by 49 pounds.

Transmission wise, the Alfa Romeo 4C spider has a TFT 6 speed automatic with a twin dry clutch with paddle shifters. One thing to regret is that there is no manual variant, but the Alfa Romeo 4C spider thrills us as much with 2 pedals. Helped by all this awesome stuff under the hood, the 4C spider needs only 4.1 seconds to reach 60 mph. The top speed of the spider is a splendid 160 mph, making it as fast as the 4C coupe.

The Alfa Romeo 4C spider is also high on electronics. It gets a huge upgrade with the DNA system, which allows the driver to alter the attitude of the car according to the conditions of the weather. In race mode, the car is fully unleashed and un inhibited by the computer correcting and limiting its performance. If that isn’t enough, more features to enhance the performance of the Spider comes with the track package, which includes  special shock absorbers with larger front and rear sway bars, and larger forged-aluminum alloys shod in Pirelli P-Zero “AR Racing” tires.

With all these features, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider proves to be a worthy competition to the sports cars in the 50,000- 80,000 Euros segment. It has the looks and the capacity to beat any machine from its category. Although the 4C spider may not have that much of a difference to that of a 4C coupe, it still packs a deadly punch!
