While software makers having been going high and low to protect their software against piracy, Microsoft seems to be going the other way. Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President of Operating Systems at Microsoft, has announced that the software giant will be providing free Windows 10 updates to all the PCs including those running the pirated copies of the Windows 7 OS as well.
Myerson’s statement about this clearly conveys that the move is primarily targeted towards the Chinese users, where more than 66 % of the PCs run pirated version of the Windows OS.
In a telephonic interview with Reuters, Myserom stated the following:
” We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10. The plan is to re-engage with the hundreds of millions of users of Windows in China”
This is the first time Microsoft is deviating from its conventional sales strategy by giving away free copies of the Windows 10, for the first year at least.
Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 update will be available soon in 190 countries with the main target of the company being China. Tech giant Lenovo has also stated that it is sincere in providing the Windows 10 upgrade to its devices as soon as the update becomes available. Lenovo also stated that it will soon be launching its first Windows Phone.
