HTC seems to be gearing up to launch a new mid range smartphone into the market. The device which is expected to be called as the HTC One E9, is so far codenamed as the A55.
Promotional images of the HTC One E9 have started making rounds on the internet. The HTC One E9 will be equipped with a 5.5 inch Quad HD display, which is supposed to be better than than the 1080p display on the HTC One M9. Under the hood beats a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek processor MT6795 clocked at around 2 GHz coupled to a Power VR6200 GPU. There is also 3 GB of RAM available and 32 GB of on board storage.
The rear camera is a 20.7 MP unit, supposedly the same unit from the HTC One M9, and the front camera is a 4 MP camera dubbed ‘Ultra Pixel’ by HTC which is destined to provide stunning selfies.
We are actually quite puzzled why HTC would consider this to be a mid range device since it has such a formidable spec sheet that can take on the current HTC flagship with ease. The HTC One E9 improves upon the HTC One M9 in almost every aspect right from the display size to its resolution, and we expect a better battery life as well due to the bigger chassis of the device. The only thing the HTC One E9 seems to fall short of when compared to the flagship is in the processor unit, its an octa core MediaTek here while its a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 on the flagship.
MediaTek has been consistently improving so far and we expect their latest chipset to address most of the issues seen with the previous generation octa cores. If the MediaTek SoC does indeed prove to be capable of competing atleast with the likes of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, then the HTC One E9 would be a good bargain.
At this point of time, no words about the performance of the device can be given. We will be back with an extensive review once the device makes its way to our desk. Make sure you subscribe if you don’t want to miss out in the future updates.
