Android One Heads To Turkey with the General Mobile 4G

Google announced its first Android One device in Turkey yesterday. The Android One device to debut in Turkey is vastly different from the ones we’ve seen in other countries so far. The Android One device will be offered by General Mobile 4G.

The specifications of General Mobile 4G seem to diverge greatly from the Android One devices we have seen so far. Despite being sold by different manufacturers across different locations, most Android One devices still carry the same specifications. The General Mobile 4G device to be offered in Turkey will be featuring a 5 inch 720p display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It will be powered by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC.  There is 2 GB of RAM along with 16 GB of on-board storage, which can later be expanded through the included MicroSD slot.

The General Mobile 4G has a solid 13 MP camera on the rear and a selfie friendly 5 MP camera on the front, making it an instant attraction for the youth. The General Mobile 4G will run stock Android Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box. It will be available as early as May 15 and will cost TRY 699 which roughly translates to $262. This is clearly expensive when compared to the other Android One devices. However, the additional cost can be justified by the solid specifications the device delivers and the guaranteed two years update agreement it comes with (provided by Google).

We also feel that General Mobile 4G might the beginning of the second generation of the Android One devices, since it only makes sense to think that Google wouldn’t want to deviate from the specifications unless its planning to revamp the entire line up. This assumption will be validated once Google releases its next Android One device. Until then, we can only assume.
