The Redmi Note 2 Launch in China has finally taken place. Xiaomi has so far achieved great success with its Redmi line up in India and continues to expand on it. Today, the Chinese giant revealed two successors to the ever popular Redmi Note, dubbed as the Redmi Note 2 and the Redmi Note 2 Prime.
The Redmi Note 2 Launch took place silently. Adding a Prime moniker seems to be the trend everywhere in recent times, but it appears that the new Redmi Note really is a prime device and its specs speak for it. The design language of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and the Redmi Note 2 Prime is reminiscent of its predecessor and that’s not a bad thing, we did like the way it looked.
The Redmi Note 2 Launch will also happen in India soon. It appears that the only difference between the Redmi Note 2 and the Note 2 Prime is their storage options. While the Note 2 will ship with 16 GB inbuilt memory, the Note 2 Prime will feature 32 GB of memory.
Apart from the differences in the storage options, both the devices, for the most part, are very similar. The display on the Redmi Note 2 and Note 2 Prime is a 5.5 inch Full HD IPS display pushing out a pixel density of around 401 PPI. The devices are powered by the latest 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 processor which has right Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz coupled to a PowerVR G6200 GPU. Both the devices have 2 GB of RAM and 3,020 mAh battery to keep it running happily for an entire day on a single charge.
Xiaomi has also tweeted the handset’s processing prowess by showcasing the Antutu scores. We must say we are thoroughly impressed with the scores, this puts the Redmi Note on par with the OnePlus Two. The Redmi Note 2 launch is specific to the China region as of today, we have to wait till the 19th of August for the Global launch.

The rear camera is 13 MP and theoretically it should be able to shoot 4K video provided Xiaomi has not locked it for some reason, since the MediaTek Helio X10 chipset allows for native 4K encoding. The front camera is a selfie friendly 5 MP unit with Sony IMX214 sensor. Both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and the Note 2 Prime will be shipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop skinned with MIUI v7, which will be unveiled today.
The specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 are level pegging with the Sony Xperia M5, it will, for the most part, boil down to pricing. If Xiaomi prices the new Note devices very close to the Sony’s pricing, then people will undoubtedly flock to the later for its better camera. So far ,the pricing of the Redmi Note 2 for China has been stated to be USD 199.
