For the custom motorcycle lovers, this man is a legend. Charlie Bretchel’s tribute to Indian Larry is a slideshow of the best pictures that portray the legend’s life on motorcycles. Indian Larry was a motorcycle builder, who became popular through reality shows like The Great Biker Build-Off on the Discovery Channel.
He was born on April 28, 1949, and died on August 30, 2004, when he was 55. His death is believed to be the result of a motorcycle accident. Larry was originally named Lawrence DeSmedt, and he specialized in building 1950s to 1960s type hot rod motorcycles.
Indian Larry was not very famous until the final years of his life. He was a creative kid during his younger years, and suffered harassment by some of his teachers. Larry’s most famous creations include the Daddy-O, Wild Child and Chain of mystery.
Not only did Larry’s motorcycles look great, they felt great to be ridden too. This was one reason why his custom made choppers were featured in many bike shows across the world and especially in America. Larry spent his early years in New York, and his love for bikes began at a very young age. While he is remembered even 11 years after his death, we found this video as a fitting tribute indeed.
