UMi Zero 2 is an upcoming smartphone which received some attention in early July 2015. The main reasons for its hype were because of a mammoth 10-core processor(deca-core) and a secondary E-ink display.
However, a recent leak revealed that there is no E-ink display and a smooth leather back is in place, though the deca-core processor remains. Phonearena managed to get some specifications about the phone from the manufacturer itself.
Specifications of UMi Zero 2
The UMi Zero 2 features a 5.2 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560x1440p; a QHD display. This is equal to 565ppi pixel density. It has 4 GB of RAM and 64 gigs of storage. Another to be noted feature is a dual 13 MP camera at the back.
The processor in this UMi Zero 2 needs special mentioning. The phone has a MediaTek Helio X20 processor. As said above, it packs 10-cores which has high, medium and power efficient cores. There are 4 power efficient quad-core cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz to save battery. Medium powered quad-core cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz and two heavily powered Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.5 GHz make up the total processing power.
This is managed by CorePilot , a custom designed task scheduler by MediaTek. These 3 types of cores are provided to go up in the scale from a low-powered core to medium-end and to the high powered core based on the processes. This provides about 30 percent improvement in the power consumption, as explained by MediaTek.
The GPU is the latest chip made by ARM, the Mali-T880, which can be clocked at 700 MHz. This uses a four shader core which will be more than enough to manage mid-range graphics.
The UMi Zero 2 comes at the cost of $299. Though the phone may provide access to many new technologies, there is a little doubt that it can compete with the high-end phones. The Zero 2 is yet to make a very huge impact on the phones in the medium to high-end range, but only time will tell how well it thrives in the market.
