Samsung just launched a refresh of its Galaxy J series in India, the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy J5 Prime. We have already covered the Galaxy J7 Prime while the J5 Prime is a newbie here. Enough with the introduction, let’s get down to business. We’ll quickly run down the specifications of both the devices and have a look at their pricing as well.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime: The big guy
The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is equipped with a 5.5-inch display that has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels which should give a pixel density of around 401 ppi. At the heart of the device is an octa-core processor clocked at around 1.6 GHz. It has 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded further with the help of a microSD card.
The Galaxy J7 Prime also supports dual SIM and there is no hybrid SIM slot trick here, this time and we applaud Samsung for that. The rear camera is a conventional 13-megapixel unit while the front camera is a generous 8 megapixel one.
The Galaxy J7 Prime is crafted out of metal and features a large 3,300 mAh battery which should be enough to power it through a day’s worth of use. It is priced at around INR 18,790 which roughly translates to around USD 280.
In our opinion, the Galaxy J7 Prime nails it this time. It’s a branded phone that has ample horsepower to run a 1080p display and still does not miss out minor features like the inclusion of a distinct MicroSD card slot and a SIM slot.
Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime: Compact
The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime holds a significantly smaller footprint with a 5-inch 720p display when compared to its sibling, the Galaxy K7 Prime. The processing is handled by an in-house quad-core Exynos chipset. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. Samsung has also included a MicroSD card slot which can be used to expand the memory further.
The rear camera is an 8-megapixel unit while the front camera is a (now standard) 5-megapixel unit. The battery capacity of the Galaxy J5 Prime is around 2,400 mAh.
The Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime is available for around INR 14,700 or USD 220 which is a bit expensive for the specifications it comes with.
Both the handsets will be available in Gold and Black variants and up for sale in India, as you are reading this.
